Bulgaria is a country that is planting red vine varieties directly promised. It is hard to imagine more ideal conditions. Red wines have been grown here since ancient times, and the predecessors of the present Bulgarians – ancient Thracians were viticulture, as well as the consumption of red liquor. Not by chance, one of the oldest cultivated varieties of wine in the world, the famous mavrud, has its origins here and is still grown only in Bulgaria, on the territory of the ancient ancient Thrace. Strong mavrud was also probably the Thracian ceremonial wine and one of their sacrifices.
Bulgaria is divided into five main wine regions – the Danube Region, whose most characteristic wine is the gamza variety from north-western Bulgaria. The Black Sea region, whose well-known vineyards are, for example, around Pomorie. One of the warmest regions is the Thracian Plain, where varieties such as mavrud have their home. This area has several sub-regions, such as the East Rhodope area, where the winery, whose wines we offer you for many years – Yamantiev. The Thrace region is followed by the Rose Valley area, which is world-famous for growing Damascus roses, whose famous petals are used to distill the famous Bulgarian rose oil. Wines from here are also renowned for their unique microclimate. The last major area is the Struma Valley, a Mediterranean area with famous red varieties – melnik and broad melnik leaf and white – keracuda.
