The blankets we call “Rainbow” in our offer have a long and interesting history, associated with the colonization of North America and trade with the Indians. The business letters show that woolen blankets were an important tender at the beginning of the 17th century.

In addition to firearms, metal ware and game traps, they were one of the main and most sought-after items in the trade with indigenous North American people. It was an exchange trade, a furry trade in which fur was paid for the goods. Blankets were highly valued by Indians. They were mainly used as clothing or sleeping bags. With its qualities the wool blanket was much more comfortable and practical than earlier leather garments. they were better off than anybody else in the quality of the blankets, and the merchants had to compete in the offer of first-class goods. During the 400 years of fur trade, quilts have changed according to the taste and demand of the Indians. Initially, white blankets were the ones most imported in smaller sizes, lined with a colored strip at the edges. Different tribes liked different colors. For example, prairie Indians bought white blankets so that they were not conspicuous on the winter plains.
The size of the blankets varied according to the purpose of the blanket being bought. If it was supposed to be a baby bag, a coat, or a sleeping bag.
