The red semi-dry wine Melnik 13 comes from the smallest wine region in Bulgaria. This is the Struma river valley, which is the south-western corner of the country, on the Bulgarian-Greek-Macedonian border. It has a Mediterranean climate, which, combined with the protective ridges of the Pirin and Belasica mountains, provides a suitable microclimate for growing all Mediterranean plants, including fig trees, pomegranate trees, etc. In addition, grapevines have thrived here since anciet times and interesting local varieties such as the golden keracuda or the melnik have come from here. Melnik takes its name from the important winery centre of the Struma valley, a picturesque town hidden among the high sandstone pyramids below the slopes of the high Pirin. Melnik is an endemic variety with a characteristic earthy, strong, sun-kissed flavour. In the case of Melnik 13, it is the only wine in our range that is not outright dry, but rather semi-dry and may remotely resemble a port-type dessert wine.
