Silk scarves
Beautiful delicate scarves with Balkan origin. Designed by our Bulgarian collaborator, they were made by a Greek manufactory.

Silk is another natural textile material with a long tradition in the Balkans. In the area of historical Thrace, which occupies a large part of present-day Bulgaria, but also partly in Greece and Turkey, mulberry groves are also abundant due to the favourable natural conditions and very warm climate. This is one of the reasons for the cultivation of the silkworm, the cocoons of which provide the basic raw material from which local silk is woven.
Our silk scarves come from the silk manufactory in the town of Sofla in Thrace, Greece. This factory buys cocoons from local silkworm farmers, then unwinds them into precious silk fibre, which is woven into nature's finest fabric. Depending on the need, the fabric is then dyed either in the traditional way in dye houses with pre-made stencils or, more recently, by digital printing.
The silk scarves we bring you are the result of a Greek-Bulgarian cooperation. The silk, which was made from material sourced from mulberry groves on both sides of the Greek-Bulgarian border, was printed with motifs that reinterpret patterns from traditional, mainly Bulgarian, folk costumes. It is the original design of Gergana Stankova, a designer from Sofia with whom Balkanova has collaborated for many years. Our silk scarves are made of 100% Balkan silk, so they do not contain any artificial fabric and have a respectable size of 90 x 90 cm.

Scarf made of 100% natural silk in an interesting black-blue-red-yellow colour scheme with abstract motifs is part of the collection silk scarves.
